Ready—hold—like the tension bowing the back
of a runner on a racetrack.
Ready—ready—ready—your heartbeat thunders.
Quiet settles like a thousand years of grief, and
it spills over in the wake of a firework's shout—
and you are running, off like a shot,
like the smoke hanging onto the bullet for dear life,
like the whistle of the metal flying on the wind of explosion,
and your pencil fills in the first bubble.
Sovereign, 16, is a burnt-out student forging a flow of words to make something for themself.

Wow..just wow. Ridiculous words I know. I just stumbled across your poem as this is my first time on the website and I landed this masterpiece. As an immigrant myself, I could relate to several aspects of this. Your use of imagery, symbolism, and allusion is outstanding
